Our latest challenge dance that we're working on is the modern Israeli dance, Adama Ve Shamyim ("Earth & Sky"). It was taught at Stockton Folkdance camp by Erika Goldman. It was choreographed Gadi Biton. You can see him dancing it in this video.

1. Reminder: On Friday we'll be having a dancing halloween party. Regular dancing (taught & requests), plus we'll make it a party: wear a costume (folk or general halloween) or halloween colors. Snacks by potluck. Bring decorations, too, if you have anything handy.

2. We will not be dancing on Friday, November 18, as the studio won't be available to us. This was the original date for our Greek party. It will be rescheduled to another date in November. Stay posted.

Friday, October 14: Trader Joe's night. Bring snacks to share (from TJ's or wherever). Or just bring your shoes and come to dance!

Friday, October 28: HALLOWEEN Party! Wear orange and/or black, or a Halloween costume, or a folk costume. Finger food and treats by potluck. Decorations welcome.

Friday, November 18: A trip to GREECE. This party night will highlight dances of Greece (plus international as well), and Greek/Mediterranean food by potluck. Color theme will be blue and white, if you'd like to dress up or help with decorations.

Welcome back!

We've kicked off our dance year and the start of Labor Day weekend with a Friday night of dancing: old favorites and some brand new dances from folk dance camp this summer.

Two items of note:

Friday, September 9 is our 2nd Friday, Trader Joe's night. If you like bring a snack to share from Trader Joe's (or elsewhere). Or just bring yourself...and your dancing shoes!
We are putting together a music CD: Redding Folk Dance Favorites. If you have nominations for dances to go on this CD, especially easy dances, please give them in writing to Lenore (either hard copy or email lfrigo@gmail.com). Copies of the CD will be available to members for your listening and dancing pleasure at home.

Dancing continues each Friday night at the Redding Ballet Academie. Meanwhile, spring is a busy time for Redding Folk Dancers.

In March, some of our dancers attended the Camellia Festival in Sacramento. Representatives of our group also did a quick demo performance at for a multicultural event at Simpson University (dances were Kardamska Sborenka from Bulgaria and the modern, peppy version of Israeli Hineh Ma Tov).
April brings us the Arcata Folk Festival on April 9-11.
Stay posted for our end-of-the-dance-year, start-of-summer party in late June.

Friday, September 25 Dance and Food. Last May we very much enjoyed sharing treats from the newly opened Trader Joe's. Their snacks are still delicious, so we'll do a repeat on that. If you wish, grab a snack from Trader Joe's on your way to dancing and we'll have a little feast.
Friday, October 30 Halloween Party. More details TBA but plans so far include: wear a costume & bring food-stuffs to be dipped into a chocolate fountain (such as fruit, cookies, pretzels, or who knows what you might come up with!)

-We'll be having dancing plus potluck finger food from the new Trader Joe's in Redding (located off of Hilltop in the Kohl's parking lot. Drop in and see what goodies they have!).
-Also along the Trader Joe's theme, you might wear your favorite Hawaiian shirt.
-Plus your chance to purchase dance and folk/costume clothing donated by Lila. Other donations of dance or folk clothing are welcome for this mini-fundraiser. Money raised will help to cover our regular expenses such as music, rent, computer and audio stuff, etc.

Saturday, May 30: Floor Cleaning (Update: This event is postponed to a later date--stay posted)
-The dance hall floor is getting sticky! We'll meet on Saturday morning to clean it up. With a team effort, this should be a quick task. BYOM (Bring Your Own Mop).

The premier of our newly formed Ciganko performing group will be at a Multicultural Celebration on Saturday January 24. The event starts at about 11:00 in the gym of Central Valley High School in Shasta Lake City. The performance, featuring many local groups, runs from about 1:00-3:00.

March: Regular dances all Fridays, except: no dancing in Redding on March 9. (Redding dancing cancelled, since many of us will be traveling to Sacramento for the Camellia Festival)

Special Event: Rummage and Bake Sale Fundraiser to be held on March 3. We need donations of things to sell, plus volunteers to help with set up and running the sale. Contact Julie.

April: Meet for dancing all Fridays. On April 27 we'll have a party, the theme is Hawaiian. Bring snakcs to share. Wear costumes or accessories if you like!

May: Meet for dancing all Fridays.

Looking ahead to June, we are planning a big 20th Anniversary Party for June 9.

The Redding Folk Dancers: We are a recreational folk dance group in Redding, California. We meet Fridays from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m. at the Redding Ballet Academie, 1726 Market Street, across from the Cascade Theatre. Only $2.00 per person, or $5 per family.

All dancers are welcome: beginners, experienced folk dancers, guests, visitors....

Each evening starts with a half hour of easy warm up dances, then an hour of teaching/review of various dances, with the rest of the evening open for requests. You'll hear a whole range of diverse music. Folk dance is great exercise and just plain fun.

If you're interested in coming...Stop by, drop in for just a while or for the whole evening. Bring a friend of come alone. We are friendly! What to wear? Any casual comfortable clothing. Wear shoes that are comfortable and easy to move in. Bring a bottle of water.
